Are you a disciple?
“Discipline is the basic set of tools we require to solve life’s problems. Without discipline we can solve nothing. With only some discipline we can solve only some problems. With total discipline we can solve all problems.” ~ M. Scott Peck ~
To most people the word discipline is a dirty word and brings up negative feelings. For those practicing the Ultimate healthy lifestyle it is a part of life. Have you noticed the similarity between the words disciple and discipline? To live the ultimate healthy lifestyle one must become a disciple of life and put forth the discipline necessary to make their life what they want it to be.
Discipline is the beginning of habit. We use discipline to establish the habits that make our lives work. Discipline is a part of life that we cannot get away from. We discipline ourselves to get out of bed in the morning to go to work. We discipline ourselves to cook dinner for the family.
If you recognize this and direct your discipline to affect your life in a positive way you would be surprised at what you could accomplish. Discipline itself can become a habit and it then becomes easier.
When trying to discipline ourselves you need to be sure it is something that you really want to do. It cannot be something you think you ought to do or need to do. If it is not something that comes from the heart is is usually a losing battle.
Pick the things that you apply discipline to with care because with each failure it becomes harder. If it does not come from your heart it is best left untried.
When making life changes it is better to do it a step at a time. Trying to do it all at once will usually result in the body rebelling. For instance, if you are going to start exercising, make a plan and start one step at a time. You might start walking and walk a certain distance each day for a couple of weeks. Then you would add weight training and do both for a couple of weeks. Then add something else until you have accomplished your goal.
As the saying goes, plan your work and work your plan. This is the way to achieve your goals. It will take several weeks for your action to become a habit, then it becomes a part of your lifestyle.
TODAY’S TIP: Try to do things that require discipline at the same time everyday. After a while the body starts to expect it and will help to make it easier.
Are you ready to become the disciple?
