Are you committed?

“Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves, too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe’s couplets: ‘Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.” ~ W. H. Murray ~

Some of us, especially men according to some sources, have an inbred fear of commitment. That fear covers relationships and dreams. There are several reasons for our fear.

We are conditioned by society to remain one of the herd and not embrace our individuality. Some have grown up in dysfunctional families and have a low sense of self worth. Another reason may be guilt for something we did in our past, so we feel unworthy.

Whatever the reason, we will never realize the full potential of our lives until we break free of the limitation we place on ourselves. Make no mistake about it, our limitations are self imposed.

It is up to you to decide whether you will live your life in courage or fear. I know a woman who is completely ruled by her fears. She has high blood pressure and had a incident where she was driving and became dizzy. The experience frightened her so bad that she will not drive again. That happened several years ago. Her blood pressure probably spiked and caused the incident.

Many people will allow their fear to cripple them to the point that they never realize their potential. It’s like the saying goes, get right back on the horse because the longer you wait to try something you are afraid of the harder it becomes.

Then on the other end of the issue, there are those who have to have that adrinalin rush and take all kinds of risks. These people very often are covering up their fear with their feats of daring.

Get in touch with your fear. Be aware of how you feel, you can always feel your fear before you put forth action. When you feel fear don’t let it confuse you. Realize that everyone is afraid of something, so you are not by yourself.

As Nike says, just do it. That is the best cource of action. Move through the fear and you will most likely find out that it was not as bad as it seemed. Once you get your momentum going the fear will disapear.

It’s your life. Live it and enjoy it. Learn to enjoy every aspect of life, even the fear. It is all experiences and this is one of the reasons we are here, to experience life. Fear is a part of life.

TODAY’S TIP: Look back at your life and see the times that fear has stopped you. Set your intention that it will not happen again.

When is the last time you committed to something?
