Are you convinced about meditation?

“Meditation is the tongue of the soul and the language of our spirit.” ~ Jeremy Taylor

I hope this week has given you a new perspective on meditation. I cannot recommend practicing meditation too strongly. It has benefits that enhance all areas of life.

I helps speed the journey for spiritual growth. It enhances creativity and makes for a healthier and happier life. The practice of meditation makes one a much better human being all around and is well worth the energy it takes to establish a consistent and continuous practice.

If you are starting a practice, do so for at least 6 months without any expectations whatsoever. One of the pitfalls is expecting to have experiences similar to those you have heard others tell about.

If you go into it with expectations you will most likely quit when you do not achieve those expectations. Meditation is a personal experience and what happens to others is not likely to happen to you. You will have your own experiences that are pertinent to your life and your path.

As I mentioned earlier in the week, there are many forms of meditation, from mantras to paying attention to your breathing. You should try several techniques and find the one that appeals to you. To start you may want to buy a guided meditation tape, which can be purchased at any book store.

There is a reason that all religions teach meditation in one form or another. It gets one in touch with the Divine that is in each and every one of us. So, if you meditate to raise your spiritual awareness or to control stress or to become more creative, it leads to the same end result. It makes you a better human being.

A very simple technique is called Mindfulness meditation. You simply find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Make yourself comfortable, either sitting in a chair or on the floor. Start to relax your entire body. You can do this by breathing deeply and telling each part of the body to relax; toes relax, legs relax, and so on.

Once you are relaxed start concentrating on your breathing. Notice your breath as it goes in and out. Feel and see the air as it enters your body and travels to the lungs. See the air leave the lungs and pass out of your body.

This is all there is to it. You will become restless and your mind will wander at first. When this happens just notice what you are thinking about and refocus on your breathing. In time you will be able to spend the entire time without your mind wandering.

TODAY’S TIP: Don’t put it off. If you have not meditated before, start today. If you have off and on, set your intention to do so regularly.

How do you feel after you meditate?
