Are you in for the long haul?

“As long as we are persistence in our pursuit of our deepest destiny, we will continue to grow. We cannot choose the day or time when we will fully bloom. It happens in its own time.” ~ Denis Waitley

Today I present another person’s view on the importance of persistence.

Persistence is a Key to Success By Alain Burrese

As I prepare to send out another wave of queries regarding my first novel, I am reminded of one of the most important tenants of success – Persistence. Many people have succeeded simply because they would not give up. They persisted until they succeeded. I look at my pile of rejecting letters and remember that there are thousands, if not millions, of success stories about people who were not discouraged by rejection.

Some of the more famous stories include Elvis being told he should continue driving truck when he tried out at the Grand Ole Opry, Marilyn Monroe being told by a producer that she didn’t have the right look for the movies, Michael Jordon being cut from his high school basketball team, and one of my favorites, Dr. Seuss being turned down by the first twenty-eight publishers who saw his manuscripts. In fact, many books, bestselling books, were turned down numerous times before finding an agent and publisher. That’s why I’m preparing another wave of queries.

Persistence really is a key to success. It also becomes easier and easier to persist the more you do it. Sticking it out, not giving up, persisting in the face of adversity, and so on becomes easier the more you do it. It’s like anything, if you do it once, you are better prepared to do it again. The first time you do something is almost always the hardest because of the unknown factor that is present. Once you know you can do it, no sweat the second time around.

So how do you persist when every fiber of your existence is telling you to throw in the towel and call it quits? That’s the time to dig deep within yourself and remember your goals. You must keep your goals in front of you, and review them frequently. Just as important, or maybe even more important, remember the “why” behind your goals. Remember the quote by Friedrich Nietzsche, “He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.” That’s what persistence is all about!

Many people quit too soon. It is easy to do when things get tough. So remember to look at those who have succeeded in areas where you strive for success yourself. You’ll find that many obtained their riches and successes by sheer determination and persistence. It will work for you too. Remember that, and remember the words of Winston Churchill, “Never, never, never give up.”
