Are you prepared?
“Luck can often mean simply taking advantage of a situation at the right moment. It is possible to make your luck by being always prepared.” ~ Michael Korda ~
James Malinchak of James Malinchak International tells the story of the time he was with Michael Jordan and asked him this question, “How would you handle the following situation?
It’s game 7 of the NBA finals and you are playing on the road. There is 1 second left on the clock and your team is down by one point. you are at the free throw line to shoot two shots. This is win or lose time and the ball is in your hands. If you make both shots your team wins.
How would you feel? would you be nervous or distracted by the opposing fans trying to break your concentration?
He says that Michael replied, “That’s easy! That situation would not bother me because I have already disciplined myself to make sure I had already prepared for success in that, or any other situation.”
What a message in that conversation! Two words say it all, disciplined and prepared. To excel in any endeavor one must go the extra mile. This is what separates the average from the extraordinary.
Many people have dreams, but because they are not willing to put forth the energy necessary to make those dreams come true, their dreams are fantasies. On their last day you may hear them say, “I could have been a contender.”
They are right, they could have. But at that point it will never be. Will you feel that way in your last days? Will you look back on your life and think of the things you could have done but did not?
Look back on your life now. Are there things that you wish to do but have not? Are there dreams you are dreaming but waiting for the right time? Are there things of which you say “someday.”
Now is the time. After all, what is the worse that can happen? You fail. If you never try, failure is your reality. You can do anything that you put your mind to and believe in. Each day you wait is a day lost. As the saying goes, “time waits for no man.”
So take a look at your dreams and figure what you need to make them come true. If it is impossible to get what you need then let go of those dreams, for they are fantasies.
If you can find a way to get what you need, establish the discipline to prepare yourself to achieve those dreams. It sounds simple and it is. All you have to do is get out of your own way and follow your heart.
Set your intention that this year you will make the changes in your life that will give you the freedom to manifest the life of your dreams.
TODAY’S TIP: Write out a plan of how you will get what you need to realize your dreams. Then follow that plan and let nothing stop you.
Are you willing to discipline yourself?
