Are you ready for the New Year?
“New Year’s is a harmless annual institution, of no particular use to anybody save as a scapegoat for promiscuous drunks, and friendly calls and humbug resolutions.” ~Mark Twain
In a couple of weeks we will be starting a brand new year. Are you contemplating your new years resolutions? What will you be doing different next year to enhance your ultimate healthy lifestyle?
Think about those resolutions because we all know that New Years resolutions are make to be broken. Within six weeks after the new year 80 to 90% of people will have let their resolutions fall by the wayside and go back to their old habits.
I used to work out at the health spa starting at 4:30am. I work out first thing in the morning for a couple of reasons. First I can complete my workout without having to wait for equipment because there are not that many people who are willing to get to the gym that early. Secondly, working out first thing in the morning gets the metabolism and energy level up, which lasts for hours after the workout is done. It also makes the day go a whole lot easier. Also people who get up that early are serious about their workouts therefore the energy is a lot more conducive to a good, intense workout.
Every year about January 1st we would see a group of new faces. These are people getting into their new years resolutions. We would laugh because we knew it was only temporary. Sure enough within a couple of weeks the new crowd would start to thin out. Within six or seven weeks it was back to normal except for a couple of the new faces that had the determination to stick it out.
I tell this story to caution you to be sure the changes you make after the first of the year are core desires, not just thing you think you should do. If you have resolutions why not start today instead of waiting? It doesn’t have to interfere with any celebrating you plan to do to welcome in the new year. Give yourself permission to celebrate then continue your new path.
Now is the time to start thinking and planning for 2009. Sit down with a pencil and paper and ask yourself what you want 2009 to look like for you. What do you want to accomplish? What do you want to change?
Write out a detailed list of wants and goals for the new year. Then write out a plan for making those goals a reality. Give yourself time limits for each step to have completed your task by the end of next year.
TODAY’S TIP: Write out your goals in the form of affirmations to serve as affirmations for the next year. If you are using affirmations now review them to be sure that they will still serve you next year. If not, write new ones.
Are you ready to make 2009 the best year ever?
