Are you still thankful?

“To educate yourself for the feeling of gratitude means to take nothing for granted, but to always seek out and value the kind that will stand behind the action. Nothing that is done for you is a matter of course. Everything originates in a will for the good, which is directed at you. Train yourself never to put off the word or action for the expression of gratitude,” Albert Schweitzer

I thought of talking about gratitude last week since Thanksgiving was celebrated then. However, I wanted to go into the deeper meaning of thanksgiving and not spoil the enjoyment of the day.

Thanksgiving Day comes once a year and has become a day to pig out, drink beer and watch football for many of us. Even on this day many of us do not really reflect on the things in our lives that we have reason to be thankful for.

Thanksgiving should not be a once a year event. Thanksgiving should be a way of life. It is our choice whether we look for things to be thankful for or things that give us permission to indulge in feelings of lack and self pity.

Whatever you look for you will find. The Universe tries to give us what we want. If we look for things which result in feelings of lack the Universe will conclude that we want lack and that is what we will get.

On the other hand if we look for things to be thankful for the Universe will conclude that we want to be thankful and give us more to be thankful for. It is that simple.

In the Ultimate Healthy Lifestyle we realize that maintaining an attitude of gratitude will bring us more for which to be thankful for. We are creating our reality and what we think about most becomes that reality.

This is one of the main reasons I stress the importance of daily meditation. Our mind is either our best friend or our worse enemy. The deciding factor is whether we control it or it controls us. For most the mind controls them.

That is why it seems to them that their lives are played out on the whims of fate or something outside their control.

The proof of that is if you look back on your life and had made different choices you would be in a different place today. If you had chosen to go to college if you did not or not go if you have. Can you see how that would have changed your life?

Living with gratitude allows you to see things in a positive light and thereby live a more peaceful and productive life. All major religions speak to this. The clearest is in the Koran which says, If you have a grateful heart I will give you more.

This week will be devoted to Gratitude.

TODAY’S TIP: Always look for things to be grateful for. You can find something even on the darkest day. You woke up this morning.

What are you thankful for?
