Do you talk to yourself?
“The inner speech, your thoughts, can cause you to be rich or poor, loved or unloved, happy or unhappy, attractive or unattractive, powerful or weak.” ~ Ralph Charell
Last year, the last couple of weeks, we talked about meditation and visualization. Along with those two tools is another very useful and powerful tool. That tool is positive self talk. These three tools when used consistently and correctly can bring miracles into one’s life.
We are in continual conversation with ourselves. Unfortunately for most of us the talk is negative and only serves to limit and sabotage our efforts.
Your thoughts are your internal dialogue. Once you become aware of what you are thinking most of the time you might be surprised at how much energy is wasted with non-productive mental gibberish.
Here is an exercise I teach people attending some of my workshops. But a 3 x 5 notebook and carry it with you along with pen or pencil. For two weeks write down the thoughts that come to you. Whenever you become aware of your thought write it down. That is all, just keep your thought log for two weeks and don’t worry about what you are writing down.
At the end of the two weeks go through and read your thought log from beginning to end. You will be surprised at what goes through you mind.
To begin to use positive self talk to improve your life you simply need to make the choice to thing only positive thoughts. If you are just beginning this process it will take some effort on your part. It will not just happen, you will have to practice until it becomes a habit.
There is no secret to practicing positive self talk. You only have to become more aware of your thoughts and exercise more control over them. When you find yourself thinking something that is not to your best interest, stop thinking about it and think of something that is to you best self interest.
Remember that the best thing you can do for yourself is feel good. So let your feeling determine whether a thought is good or bad for you. If the thought makes you feel good it is good and if it makes you feel anything else it is not good.
Of course that is not a 100% rule. There may be times you think a thought that does not make you feel good that may not be bad for you. For instance, If you are thinking of someone who is going through some negative experience and you feel compassion for them. It may not make you feel good, but in situations like that something positive can come of it.
In those cases you simply change your thoughts to thoughts that predict a positive outcome and see that outcome in you mind. This may not effect that persons immediate situation, but who knows that you are not adding a little positive energy into their situation.
Positive self talk, especially when used along with meditation and visualization is a very powerful force in one’s life. For this reason i devote this week to Positive self talk.
TODAY’S TIP: Start today to become aware of what you are thinking and start redirecting those negative thoughts to positive ones.
