The belief system is something that is very important for us humans. The belief system is there to help us identify and filter out so many things that might harm us. Think of it life a security blanket. It does not allow things to come through the blanket unless we have a belief that it should. Just like a protective shield. But can this belief system, this protective shield stop us from achieving our goals?

It absolutely can. Our belief system is there to keep us safe but the challenge is that we add beliefs to this system and then we rarely take the time to go back and look through the old beliefs.

What happens is that we decide to believe something when we were a child because of some incident. Say when you were 8 years old your mom gave you $10 to go to the store with your to buy a couple of things for dinner. But then when you got to the store you had lost the $10 so you had to go home and tell you mom that you lost the money.

Now that might not be that big of a deal but if when you got home your mom was very angry with you for losing the $10 and she said that she should never have given you the money because it was obvious that you cannot handle the money.

Right there you might have owned this and taken that thought on as a belief. From there on, you would have a belief that you cannot handle money.
So if in your adult life you decided that you wanted to be rich, this belief will not allow you to achieve this goal. This belief would be getting you to continually get rid of all of your money because you know that you could not be able to handle it.
This is a very classic case of how someone’s beliefs stop them from achieving their goals.

By spending some time and really looking at the beliefs that you have, you can then start to determine if any of your goals are being stopped because of a belief. If they are, you can then do something about them so that you will be able to achieve your goals and dreams.
