Is your stress less?
“The mark of a successful man is one that has spent an entire day on the bank of a river without feeling guilty about it.” ~ Author Unknown
We have spent the week talking about stress. Many of us do not realize that we have stress in our lives. Almost everyone experiences stress to one degree or another.
Recognize that the nervousness and anxiety we feel is stress. Stress is the number one cause of illness in our society. That is why it is so important to establish and maintain habits that help to lessen and control the stress we feel in our lives.
There are several techniques that can be used to control stress. The most simplest one is, whenever you start feeling nervous or anxious, think of a moment in your life when you were extremely happy. Relive that moment. Use all of your senses in remembering how you felt, what you saw, what you heard, smelled, and tasted. You will start to relax and feel good the more vivid the experience becomes.
The most effective technique to control stress is to practice meditation daily. There are different meditation techniques. They are all effective, you just need to find the one that suits you and practice daily.
Doing things that make you feel good regularly also helps. We are taught not to be selfish. There is a fine line between selfishness and taking care of you. If you don’t take care of you, who will.
We are sometimes made to feel guilty for doing something we want to do when someone else wants us to do something they want us to do. Don’t be taken in. The most under used word in our language is the word NO.
All actions should be for the good of all concerned. If they are not, they take more than they add. Listen to your instincts and don’t allow yourself to be coerced into doing things that you do not want to do.
One other thing that might help is to take up a discipline of some kind. A discipline such as martial arts, yoga, palates, or QiGong. These disciplines help to discipline the mind and brings with it the ability to remain calmer.
Recognize that it is possible to live a stress free life. You just have to work at it. The reward is that you feel good and it feels good to feel good.
TODAY’S TIP: Be aware of what is going on within you. When you feel down think a happy thought.
Will your weekend be stress free?
