It is all too easy in life to slip into negative expectations and start expecting life to not work out. This is understandable as life, work, finances and friends can grind you down. But you can take some quite simple steps to rediscover the positive expectations of your youth.
Be Cheerful in the morning
If you wake up in a bad mood, it’s a bad start to the day. The tone for your whole day may be set. Smiling and being in a good mood not only feels hood but encourages your brain to produce more feel good chemicals, so you feel even better.
Have Plans for your time
There is nothing worse than a bad day. Nothing goes smoothly, you forget things or find yourself doing some things twice. You can avoid this by jotting down your plan for the day in the morning. It may include what you want to achieve. Even if it as simple as doing the shopping and cleaning, if you write it down in the morning and can tick it off in the evening you’ll feel a great sense of achievement.
Don’t be distracted
Make your list in the morning and concentrate on the important things. For some things it may help for you to picture in your mind you actually doing it and succeeding. Such as exercising or passing an exam. None of us need to visualize doing the washing! Don’t lose sight of the importance of fun and relaxation in your daily activities. Combining them both will give you the best chance of succeeding each day.
Keep a sense of perspective
No matter how positive you are or how much visualisation you do, sometimes things won’t work out. You can’t control everything. Learn to accept and embrace this. Don’t get worked up or angry, as this probably won’t change anything. If you do the best you can with a clear plan then more often than not you will succeed to some degree.
Don’t get set in your ways
You need to have new experience and challenges in your life. It is all too easy to slip into a routine and stop trying new things. Whether it’s food, work, television, music, languages or holidays try to vary things and try, taste or do new things.
As the years pass you need to make more effort to maintain a positive attitude. But anyone can do it.
