What discipline have you chosen?

“He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding.” ~ Proverbs 15:32

Well we have talked about several techniques to help with the discipline in our lives. To many discipline is a dirty word.  To those who feel that way their lives reflect the consequences of that lack of discipline.

Discipline is a part of our lives. Getting up in the morning to go to work requires discipline. Doing the right thing towards friends and family requires discipline. The quality of our lives reflect the importance we place on discipline and how much we practice it.

Beginning one of the techniques we discussed this week will go a long way in helping to establish habit patterns that make discipline easy. The easier it gets the more we find our lives becoming the life we dream of having.

Combining one of the techniques discussed with the regular practice of meditation bring even greater results. When I started practicing Karate we first learned to meditate before any mention of the fighting techniques. If you saw the movie, “Karate Kid,” you know what I mean. “Wax on, wax off.” For those who have not seen the movie, I refer to the scene when the student is waxing the car and getting impatient to learn to fight.

We have discussed meditation in other posts and will no doubt discuss it again as I think it is the most important of all disciplined practices to become involved in. The benefits are tremendous if you stick with it and you will start to experience miracles in your life with continued practice.

So let us end this week with a short meditation. This technique is called future visioning or life visioning. It goes like this:

Find a nice quiet and comfortable spot. Sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor or lie down. Have a pencil and paper handy.

Start to relax. Take a few deep breaths and tell each part of your body to relax, starting with your feet and working upwards. Or you can concentrate on your breathing for a few minutes.

When you feel totally relaxed, send your conscience into your future. Go to five years in your future and see what comes to mind. If that picture is not what you want it to be change it to the picture of your life you want to have five years from now.

Keep that picture in your mind for a few minutes, then ask yourself what you have to do to make that picture a reality. See yourself starting today and going through the steps necessary to arrive at your desired destination.

Picture where you will have to be four years from now to make you dream come true. Then picture where you will have to be 3 years from now, then 2 years, 1 year, 6 months, 3 months and 6 weeks.

That is your plan of action. Now write it down and all you have to do is follow the steps you have laid out for yourself. You can do anything that you can see in your mind.

TODAY’S TIP: Cultivate the courage to dream and believe that if you can see it you can make it come true.

Where will you be five years from now?
