What do you say to yourself?
“He who would be useful, strong, and happy must cease to be a passive receptacle for the negative, beggarly, and impure streams of thought; and as a wise householder commands his servants and invites his guests, so must he learn to command his desires and to say, with authority, what thoughts he shall admit into the mansion of his soul.” ~ James Allen
Do you realize that we are continually talking to ourselves. We have a continual dialog going on inside our heads at all waking hours, except when we intentionally stop the chatter.
We gain control over our minds to be able to stop the chatter meditation is the most valuable tool we have to work with. When you get into the habit of meditation is becomes easier to control your thoughts and quiet the mind at will.
This post is not about meditation, although I often write about it and will most likely do so again. As I have mentioned before I believe everyone could benefit from a regular practice of meditation.
This post, and this week, is dedicated to self talk. What do you talk to yourself about? Is it negative or positive?
Your self talk determines who you are and how you experience your day to day life. The importance of self talk cannot be ignored
If you allow your self talk to occur on it’s own it may well be that the talk is mostly negative. This is because unless you control it the ego will direct it and use it to give itself more power.
Remember, the ego, and mind, is either our best friend or our worst enemy, depending on if we control it or it controls us.
We cannot stop the dialog, except for a short time, so why not use it to empower ourselves and promote a more positive and productive life?
With a little practice and discipline we can talk to ourselves about things that help to improve our lives and create the life that we truly want to create.
Start to notice what you are saying to yourself. When you notice that you have a negative dialog going in your head, change it to words of positive influence.
Talk to yourself of your strengths and of having the things you want in life. Tell yourself how much you love and appreciate you.
Start first thing in the morning. When you look into the mirror, look into your eyes and tell yourself that you love you and that you are going to have a wonderful day.
Talk to yourself through out your day. Tell yourself how great you are and how you are going to accomplish you goals. Talk about how your life is going to be when you have achieved your goals.
TODAY’S TIP: Be aware of your self talk and make it work for you. Remember what you think about most you become.
What are you talking about?
