What do you see in your mind?

“All prosperity begins in the mind and is dependent only upon the full use of our creative imagination.” ~ Ruth Ross

Last week we talked about meditation. Once you have quieted and calmed the mind the next step is visualization. If you can see it, it can become reality.

There is a book that was written in the 1970s or 1980s, called “Zen and The Art of Archery.” This book became one of the cult books of the time, almost everyone was talking about it.

I had heard of this book them but did not read it until I became interested in archery. My archery teacher recommended that I read it because it would give me an edge in becoming good at the sport.

The book is about how the ancient Japanese archers practiced. They practice without bow and arrow. They would assume the stance and go through the motions of drawing the bow and loosening the arrow. They would stand some distance from the target and see the arrow being shot and hitting the target dead center.

It was this technique of visual imagery that Japanese archers became some of the best archers in the world. That demonstrates the power of visualization.

Some years ago a professional basketball team decided to test that technique. The team was divided in half. One half went to the gym each day and practiced as usual. The other half didn’t set foot in the gym for the duration of the experiment, but spent the same amount of time practicing only in their minds.

When the experiment ended everyone was amazed because the group that practiced only in their minds out performed the group that went to the gym every day.

This was a testament to the power of visualization. Everything starts in the mind. Before you physically do anything you do it in your mind. You have to think about it.

It is said that what you think about most becomes your reality. So why not consciously create your reality. You are doing so anyway. To create your reality, visualization is a powerful tool.

One thing I would caution you against is considering meditation and visualization as the same thing. They are not the same and you cannot meditate and visualize at the same time.

You can meditate and visualize in the same session. You can do your meditation first then before breaking off the session do some visualization. This is actually a good way to practice both. By meditating first you calm your mind and make you visualizations more powerful.

This week we will talk about visualizations and how the practice will make you life more enjoyable and help to realize your dreams and desires.

TODAY’S TIP: Start to train your mind to see the life you want to live and you may be surprised by having it come true.

What do you see now?
