What is the cause of now?

“If you want to understand the causes that existed in the past, look at the results as they are manifested in the present. And if you want to understand what results will be manifested in the future, look at the causes that exist in the present.” ~ Buddhist sutra ~

We live in a world of cause and effect. Nothing happens without a cause. It can be said that the choices you make are the causes of your reality.

Once we accept that we control our lives, either willingly or unwillingly, we empower ourselves with the ability to make our life more of what we want it to be.

We can then take a look at our lives and determine which areas are working well and which are not. In those areas that are not as we wish them to be we can take the necessary steps to make them more to our liking.

As the saying goes, if you do what you have always done you will get what you have always gotten. To get something different something has to change.

It can be difficult to affect change in our lives. We become comfortable with the way things are and even if things are not the way we would like we find it hard to change.

The reason for this is that even if something is not right in our lives there is fear of change. We fear the unknown and when we make changes we cannot always be sure how it will turn out. This uncertainty will sometimes become a war within us.

The ego will want us to play safe and do nothing. Yet there is a nagging within us that tells us to go forward and make the changes because it will better our lives. Which part will you listen to?

It takes courage to journey into the unknown, but if mankind did not we would still be living in a cave somewhere. It is up to each of us to decide how much we will demand of ourselves.

When I was Co-Director of the Chystal Unicorn Foundation in Colorado we sometimes had people come to us for counseling. The were dissatisfied with their lives and wanted to change it. However some of those people would not follow any advice given them and just continued to complain.

We would get to a point where we could do no more for them. We would say that they were just not miserable enough yet.Their pain and suffering was familiar and they could not gather the courage enough to face the unknown of change.

How about you? Are you in a rut that you wish would change. Wishing will do no good. You must take charge of your life and make it work for you.

Look at the choices you have made in the past and start to made those that enhance your life.

TODAY’S TIP: Use affirmations to make the changes you need in your life easier.

What is your effect of yesterday?
